This an amazing book! "WORLD GEOGRAPHIC ATLAS, A COMPOSITE OF MAN'S ENVIRONMENT", edited and designed by Herbert Bayer in 1953 and privately printed for Container Corporation of America. This was the only edition of this book that was ever produced and it was never commercially available. The book is large, 11 1/4" x 15 3/4" and covered in Monkscloth with the title stamped in gold. The end papers are a red rosette pattern, there are 368 pages and a beautiful dark blue and red slipcase which is showing wear around the edges. Herbert Bayer worked on this book for 5 years with 3 other designers, Martin Rosenzweig, Henry Gardiner and Masato Nakagawa. The book has maps of the United States and all the world's countries. It also has illustrations highlighting Astronomy, Climatology, Economics, Geography, Geology and Demography. It is a fascinating book from an interesting time and beautifully made. There is a small brown stain on the front cover and a few smaller ones on the back. A couple of the first pages have a small stain and some specks. It does have a slight old book smell, but not offensive. There are names written on the front end papers in ink, but very hard to make out, I didn't even notice them at first. I will be happy to send additional photos, convo me for international shipping or any questions.
