Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a beautiful pot made by the Tarahumara or Raramuri Indians of the Copper Canyon in the Sierra Madre Occidental of Chihuahua in northern Mexico. They are known for their long-distance running ability, pottery and baskets. I'm not sure of the age of this pot, I have owned it for several years. It measures 10" tall x 7" diameter at the widest point. It has rawhide wrapping, an arrow design, and was wood-fired. The bottom has a stamp that reads "HECHO EN MEXICO" (made in Mexico). There is another stamp that is mostly worn off.
