Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a beautiful antique Winnebago Indian basket. It was made from Ash splints and still retains some of the original dye. The handle and its attachments are hand carved and beautifully made. I purchased this basket in Iowa in the 1980s. The basket was probably made in Wisconsin in the early 1900s. An elderly woman from my hometown in central Iowa told me she remembered Winnebago women selling these baskets door to door when she was a child. There are a couple of smears of gray paint. This basket has some breaks in the weaving, especially on the curls which is common in baskets of this age, but is structurally sound and would make an excellent addition to your basket collection. The dimensions are 10 1/2" tall x 12" across the top.
